BASICS
Tegel is located 5 miles (8 km) northwest of central Berlin. A tourist office at the airport is open from 5:30 A.M. to 11:30 P.M. daily. As with Berlin's Tempelhof and Schönefeld Airport Web sites, Tegel's Web site is in German only. Nevertheless, you can use it to locate:
TAXI
Good taxi service is provided just outside the terminal. The fare is about 25 deutsche mark ($16) to Bahnhof Zoo Station, the main station in the center of Berlin, and the ride takes between 20 and 25 minutes.
BUS
The most convenient and cost effective way to get to and from the airport is by bus. An airport bus, number 109, leaves Tegel every 10 to 15 minutes from outside the arrivals hall.
The bus route follows the Kurfurstendamm to the Bahnhof Zoo Station—and from there it's an easy taxi or U-bahn ride to most hotels. The bus costs about 3.80 deutsche mark ($2) and takes 30 minutes to the Zoo station, the central station for the western part of Berlin.
RENTAL CAR
Avis, Europcar/Interrent, Hertz, Sixt-Budget, and other car rental agencies are located at Tegel.
